Thursday 23rd March.

This was a very pleasurable event attended by our members and gave us all a chance to compare notes following the opening week of the season. This is one of the nicest and most congenial functions of the winter programme. We hope that next year more members will be able to come and enjoy each other’s company.

After the meal the President, John Wadham, offered a speech during which he thanked all those who had made their valuable contributions to the club effort during the previous year. He then went on to present the awards to those winners who were present at the event.

Hanby Cup – Graham Pearson & Dave Porter
Best Rainbow – David Moore
Rutland Horseshoe – Tim Lawson

On Thursday 23rd of February we held our annual forum with Anglian Water managers. The evening’s event was in the form of a presentation by Will Kirstein, overall parks manager, and Andy Ainscough – senior ranger at Rutland Water.

The evening was chaired by Paul Wild our treasurer, who tabled the questions from members. The President thanked Will and Andy and Paul who provided very comprehensive coverage of the plans for the 2023 season. This included details about the new online booking system, details about the price structure and stocking.

We held our annual fly tying demonstration evening recently. A very big thank you to our volunteer fly dressers who gave us the benefit of their skills in showing us a variety of tying methods and patterns. Also, for giving us a good idea how to fish them!

The flies being tied ranged from saltwater versions by John Lee, floating fry patterns tied by Mick Connor and emerger & other wet fly patterns by Brian Bonner.

We also had a beginners table run by Dave Walker. This proved to be very popular and thanks to Dave’s patience and fly tying skills, proved to be quite an attraction.

Well known local angler, Craig Barr, came to the club on Thursday 24th November to speak to us. An excellent evening was enjoyed by all members as Craig talked about his experiences of fly fishing at Rutland Water and other local reservoirs across over 30 years.

A full write up and and access to the video of Craig’s speech is in the members newsletter.
